The McMaster Emergency Room is Important to our Community!
Hamilton Health Sciences has put together a proposal which they call "Access to Best Care." This plan has many problems that HHS is not willing to address. The Minister of Health and Long-Term Care will not discuss the problems and many MPPs have not taken an active stance.
A key element of the plan is conversion of the Emergency Room at the McMaster site to a children-only ER. With the closure of the Chedoke Urgent Care site several years ago, the McMaster Emergency Room is the closest available emergency/urgent care facility for 170,000 residents of Hamilton. Closing this faciltiy to adults will adversely affect many people.
On September 29, 2008, the Hamilton-Niagara-Haldimand-Brant LHIN (Local Health Integration Network) is making a decision regarding this proposal, despite City Council's request for an extension.
What can you do? Come to the rally! Call, write or e-mail HHS, the LHIN or your MPP! (Check the flyers below for contact information.) Write letters to the local newspapers!
Download the petition and ask family, friends and neighbours to sign it!
